Where is the lodge? Our fly fishing lodge is approximately 55 miles southwest of the airport in Bozeman, Montana on the Madison River.

How do I get there? Most guests fly into Bozeman Yellowstone International Airport and rent a car for the 1 hour drive to Ennis, Montana.

Do you provide activities besides fishing & Hunting? Yes, for sure! We can arrange horseback tours, yoga, massage, hikes, nature walks, day trips to Yellowstone Park, etc. And right here within walking distance, there’s many restaurants, saloons, a distillery, a micro brewery, gift shops, coffee shops and much more.

When’s the best time to fish? April and May can be very productive months. Spring runoff starts sometime in May or June and lasts 10-14 days depending on snowpack. During runoff we have other spots to fish. And from June through October it’s a spectacular place. With autumn streamer fishing a favorite amongst locals. For hunters and winter sports enthusiasts, the lodge is also available September – March.

Can I book a guided fishing trip only? Yes. Though we offer wonderful lodging in downtown Ennis, MT. We are also available for guided fly fishing trips if you’re staying somewhere else.

Do I need to be a Hunting expert? No. We cater to all hunters. The beauty of a guided hunt is that you can tailor your level of engagement. Need more autonomy and space, just say the word. Want lots of hands on guiding and training, we’ve got your back.

Do I need to be a fly fishing expert? No. We can offer technical fishing to experienced anglers who are looking to be rewarded for a beautifully presented fly…and we also enjoy working with the novice on fundamentals of casting, line mending and fly presentation and can design the perfect trip for you as well.

What fish will I catch? Rainbow trout and brown trout will be the majority, Montana’s native white fish, and the occasional Yellowstone cutthroat trout live in the river. These are all wild and/or native fish.

Is there wade fishing? Yes. Some of the best fishing is done while wading. The wading is fairly easy, though anglers need to have good balance and be prepared for a slick rocky river bottom.

What are the guides like? The guides are eager to work with hunters and anglers of all skill levels. They know this area well and have a firm grasp of a wide range of fishing and hunting techniques. You can expect a friendly and supportive attitude.

What is the favorite rod(s) for the trip? A 9 foot 5 or 6 weight rod is perfect for nearly all of the fly fishing you’ll encounter. Smaller 3-4wt. dry fly rods can be fun if you fish on the private water. If you own a 2 handed switch rod in 3-5 weight bring it along for swinging flies in the braided section of the Madison river.

What are the physical demands? With all outdoor activities, you will need to be in relatively good condition. As a rule if thumb, if you can climb 5 flights of stairs, lift 25 pounds over your head, walk a mile…you should be fine.
